Openstorytellers Life Skills Day Services (Frome)

Openstorytellers is a charity that works to enrich and empower the lives of children and adults who are marginalised because of learning and communication difficulties.

They do this through varied work around the telling and sharing of stories, including personal narrative as well as classic stories, using a collaborative approach based on fifteen years of specialist research and innovative practice.

Their Life Skills Day Service is based at RISE, Whittox Lane, Frome BA11 3BY. This service helps adults with learning disabilities to develop their independent living skills as well as building on communication and narrative skills through their innovative Storysharing approach. Life Skills focusses on the following key areas:-

  • Communication in different contexts
  • Money skills and budgeting
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Getting out and about and personal safety
  • Relationships and staying connected
  • Getting involved in the community

It may be possible for Wiltshire residents to use Direct Payments or a Personal Budget to meet the cost of attending sessions and we would recommend interested families having a discussion with their social worker to confirm this. Alternatively, families would be able to self fund if they choose - sessions cost £42-£56.53 per day, with full and half day options available.

There is a minimum age of 18, but no maximum age. A person who self funds can go directly to Openstorytellers without having to go through a social care assessment, providing that they have a learning disability or communication difficulties.

For further information call 01373 454099 or email info@openstorytellers.org.uk to book a taster session.
