School Places and Availability for September 2021

The WPCC has received the following from Wiltshire Council regarding SEN school places for children starting in September:-

Starting school is an exciting time for families but it can also be a time which can result in worries for parents and carers about school placements for children who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or who are going through the assessment process.

Wiltshire Council has worked with their schools and settings to make sure that they have the spaces needed in specialist school provision and in Resource Base provision for the Reception Year children who have this named in their EHCP and who are starting school this September. Wherever possible Wiltshire Council aims to minimise journey time to the school or setting but they recognise that in a county as large as Wiltshire, some children will need to travel in order to reach their school.

Some of the Education, Health and Care needs assessments are not yet complete and the Council recognises that this can lead to concern and uncertainty at this point in the term. Wiltshire Council wants to give an assurance that they are working to complete as many of these as possible within the statutory timeframe, so that they are complete before the start of the school year or as close to this as is possible.

If you have any questions about an assessment which is already underway then please do contact your SEND Lead Worker directly, your SEND Lead Worker’s name can be found at the bottom of the correspondence you will have received relating to the Education Health and Care Assessment.

Alternatively, you can call: 0300 456 0108 and speak to a member of the SEN team who will be able to advise you.
