New Name for Northern Special School

Parents, governors, staff and pupils were involved in choosing their favourites to create a shortlist of names for the Northern Special School. Chosen from a shortlist of eight by governors, the winning name which was unanimously voted in is Silverwood School.

The three school sites of Larkrise, Rowdeford and St. Nicholas came together as one school on 1st September 2020 with the working name of North Wiltshire School. Now pupils across all three sites will be pupils of Silverwood School, with each site referred to as the Trowbridge campus, Rowde campus or Chippenham campus respectively.

The next job for the school community is to choose a logo for the newly named school. Main construction works are expected to start in Summer 2021 and be complete for September 2023.

A series of online workshops have taken place fortnightly to enable parent carers, staff and other stakeholders to work with the design team to develop a concept design for the new building on the Rowde campus. The design team will be taking some time between now and Christmas to focus on progressing the concept design work, before moving onto the more detailed design. The next round of workshops for parent carers, staff and other stakeholders will start in January 2021. The WPCC will promote the new dates as soon as we have them. In the meantime, a short survey will soon be available to help inform which online format works best for most people ahead of the next round of workshops.
