Changes Proposed to Make Disabled Children’s Social Care Fairer & Easier to Access
|
The Law Commission has completed a major review of the law around social care for disabled children in England. They found the current system is confusing, outdated, and unfair, with families often getting very different support depending on where they live. In response, the Law Commission has recommended a simpler, clearer legal framework so that families can better understand their rights and get consistent support across the country.
Key proposals include:-
• a single assessment process
• a modern definition of disability
• better support for parents and carers
• stronger planning for the move into adulthood
These changes aim to reduce the stress families face and ensure children’s needs are met in a fairer, more transparent way. The Government is now considering these recommendations. You can read a summary of the Law Commission’s final report [HERE].
