Theme: Preparation for Adulthood: Information to Support with the Journey Ahead

Are you a parent carer of a child or young person with SEND in Wiltshire?
Our next WPCC SEND Information Event is coming to Trowbridge, and we’re doing things a little differently this time.
Our theme for this event will be Preparation for Adulthood, bringing together information from a range of services to help parent carers feel more informed and better placed to support their young people as they move towards adulthood.
A day designed around what you told us
In June this year, we asked our membership to complete a short survey and tell us what information would be most useful at a future Preparation for Adulthood Information Event. Your responses have helped shape this event, and we’re now busy working on a programme of workshops covering the most popular topics you told us you wanted to know more about.
There’s another important change to this event
In response to feedback from some people at our recent events who said they found the Market Place overwhelming, there will be no Market Place; instead, there will be a carousel of workshops throughout the day.
You don't need to stay for the whole day if you don’t want to
Come along for the sessions that interest you most, take a break when you need one; you will have the flexibility to dip in and out of the sessions that are most relevant to you.
What could the workshops cover?
We’re still confirming facilitators and finalising the programme, but we are currently working towards sessions covering the following topics:
Transition to Adult Services
Wills and Trusts
Benefits
Employment
There will be more information about each session when bookings open.
What will the day look like?
Our anticipated timings and plan for the day are:
9.30am to 10am: Signing-in
10am: Welcome, housekeeping and a brief service update
Throughout the day: Carousel of workshops
2pm: Close
We’re hoping to open bookings soon, so watch this space! We’ll let you know as soon as booking is available.
Free to attend
As always, the WPCC Information Event will be free to attend.
Although the event is aimed primarily at parent carers, we warmly welcome young people, and professional colleagues working to support families of children and young people with SEND in Wiltshire.
As always, the WPCC will reimburse parent carers’ travel costs, including paid-for parking, and childcare costs necessary for them to attend the event. There’ll also be free tea, coffee, cakes and fruit available throughout the event for everyone.
