North Wiltshire School Build Design - Co-production Workshops for Parent Carers

Commencing September 24th 2020

Willmott Dixon, the main contractor for the North Wiltshire School building development, have reached the design stage of the building project. Wiltshire Council are committed to working together with children, parents, carers, school staff and other interested parties throughout this project to make sure that the building development works for the people who will be using it and so have planned a series of workshops.

Whilst the workshops will be talking about buildings on the Rowde site, it is important to hear from parents and carers from across all three special school sites, as well as any other interested parent carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities whose children might for example attend resource bases, mainstream schools, are home educated or are too young to have started school etc.
Please see the letter to parent carers for full details.

To ensure parent carers views are heard there are a series of co-production workshops planned between September 2020 and January 2021. Due to Covid-19, regrettably, these will be held via video conferencing, at least in the short term.

The workshops will each have a theme and you are welcome to attend as many or as few as you wish.

Please see the timetable of the co-production workshops and the key themes that will be explored.

The first workshop is on 24th September 10.00 am – 12.30 pm, and will be repeated at 6.00pm – 8.30 pm. Later workshops will continue to be developed as feedback is gathered from the earlier sessions and will include further opportunities for evening participation, which will be publicised in advance.

To register to attend a workshop please e-mail SpecialSchools@wiltshire.gov.uk or contact Matthew Look, Senior Commissioner on 01225 718303 by the deadline date in the timetable. If you are registering for the session on 24th September, please indicate if you would like to attend the 10.00 am or 6.00 pm session. You are being asked to register in advance as video-conferencing will be used to run these workshops, and instructions on how to join will be sent out to attendees in advance to the e-mail address supplied, together with instructions on how to join the session. Your e-mail address will only be used to share joining details and information for the workshops.

If you are unable to attend in this way, or can’t make one or all of the sessions, there will be other opportunities to get involved and influence this work. Key questions will be shared on the Wiltshire council website and you can find the most recent updates [HERE]

If you wish to ask a question or share your views please email SpecialSchools@wiltshire.gov.uk

Parents who do not have access to the internet will be kept informed via hard copy through the individual school sites.

It is of course also really important that the pupils at all three sites are involved in planning for the new building, and how it will feel for them as they use it. Work will continue with Willmott Dixon and the three school sites to engage with pupils in a range of ways including sharing models for them to look at, and talking about what makes a good day at school and a good environment to learn in.
