Zone Club music for over 16s

What is Zone Club?

Zone Club is a federation of three clubs for young people based in Bradford on Avon, Frome and Salisbury. The clubs are run by the Wiltshire Music Centre (01225 860100), OpenStoryTellers (01373 471171) and Salisbury Arts Centre (01722 321744).

The clubs are open to young people with learning disabilities who are about to or have left school. More information can be found by calling the numbers above or by visiting the websites of each venue/organisation. Zone Club aims to offer people with learning disabilities the chance to meet up and be creative. Each month young people with learning disabilities from across Wiltshire and Somerset explore music making, film making, visual art, drama, dance and movement and storytelling in a safe and friendly environment.

On the last Saturday of every month, Salisbury Arts Centre hosts a music, dance and filmmaking club for learning disabled people aged 16+.

Facilitated by experienced workshop leaders, the sessions run from 10am to 2.30pm with a lunch break in the middle.

Here’s what some of the participants and their parents have said:

  • "I've never seen my son so animated." (Parent)
  • "I had a load of fun!!! I am very keenly looking forward to writing songs in the next sessions!!!" (Jade)
  • "He's always keen to come to the club, he talks about it for days in advance about the friends he will see there, he doesn't do too many social things so it's especially good for him." (Parent)
  • "I want to do more of everything!" (Steven)

For contact details, please see our Salisbury Arts Centre page and for dates of the next Zone Club, visit the What's on section.

Openstorytellers is a charity that works to enrich and empower the lives of people who are marginalised because of learning and communication difficulties, and is co-run by people with a learning disability.

Their monthly Zone club is called ‘FMU2: Songs’. Its focus is on song-making/writing and performance and the session runs from 10am to 2.30 pm for aged 16+.

All attendees need to bring some lunch and if young people require 1:1 support then they will need to bring a support person with them. The cost per session is £15. There is no need to book in advance – you can just pay on the day by cash or cheque but advisable to call first to check numbers for the session. The address for the club is: The Eliot Building, Frome Town Hall, Christchurch St West, Frome, BA11 1EF. The next session is on 18th June, then every 3rd Saturday of the month. For more information please contact James Oliver (Mon, Tues, Fri) at Open Story Tellers on 01373 471 171, visit [Openstorytellers website] or check the What's on section.
