Care Related Contributions when a Young Person turns 18

As stipulated by the Care Act 2004, when a young person turns 18, they may be responsible for contributing toward the cost of their social care provision; this is often referred to as a Financial and Benefits Assessment (FAB). A FAB assessment will consider the individual’s income and savings, benefits and pensions, as well as their outgoings to decide if they have to contribute towards the cost of their care provided as a result of a social care assessment.

To help get an idea about what your young person’s contribution might be, an [online calculator] is available on the Wiltshire Council website. The Online Contribution Calculator is intended to help people who want to know more about the possible cost of receiving care, either at home or in a residential home, for themselves or a relative. Anything you enter into the Calculator is completely confidential and you can save a copy for your own use. The Calculator will estimate the maximum you might be asked to contribute each week. You will not be charged more than the actual cost of services provided to you.
