Child Exploitation Awareness Day

This year’s Child Exploitation Awareness Day takes place on Thursday 18th March 2021.

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is a form of sexual abuse that involves the manipulation and/or coercion of young people under the age of 18 into sexual activity.

The impact of COVID-19 has meant that children and young people have had more access to the internet than ever before. This increased internet use, combined with children being less visible to professionals during lockdown, means that children are at much greater risk of exploitation. The NSPCC have also found that the conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have [made children more vulnerable to being exploited].

The National Child Exploitation Awareness Day aims to highlight the issues surrounding Child Exploitation; encouraging everyone to think, spot and speak out against abuse.
