Helping My ... / Supporting My ... Courses and Sessions

Understanding The Early Stages of School Avoidance - Wednesday 6 March, 10am-12pm (online).
This course is suitable for parents of children who are still attending school but where attendance may be suffering a dip or causing emotional issues. It provides an opportunity for parents to share experiences, discover new strategies and ask questions of an educational psychologist. This course won’t be so helpful for parents of children who are currently not managing to attend school.

Helping My Child Prepare Positively for Change - Thursday 7 March or Monday 25th March, 10am-12pm (online)
Considers how and why change can be difficult for children and explores practical techniques to ease transitions, such as using stories and visual supports. These courses are most helpful for parents of children aged from about three years to 13 years old.

Helping My Child With Anxiety and Worry – Monday 18th March, 10am-12pm (online).

Supporting My Teen With Wellbeing – Friday 22nd March, 10am-12pm (online)
Learn techniques to promote wellbeing, explore positive psychology.

Supporting My Child With Times Tables - Friday 22nd March, 10am-12pm (online)


Other courses:

Supporting Myself to Support My Child - three session course starting on Thursday 14 March, 10am-12pm (online).
This course is ideal for parents and carers who have children who need additional support. Initially, it reminds carers how important their own wellbeing is and looks at developing strategies to support wellbeing. Then they explore ways to respond to the individual needs of their children and building resilience. Learners consider the Five to Thrive approach and, finally, look at working positively with professionals to support their child.

Feel Empowered To Make Positive Changes – five session course starting on Monday 11th March, 10am-12pm (online).
Build your skills in resilience, self-confidence and time management. Explore ways to support your wellbeing.

Community Smart - six session course starting 8th April, 10.30am-12.30pm (The Medley Centre, County Hall, Trowbridge)
Supports learners to develop an awareness of the facilities and opportunities available in their local area and how to make and maintain relationships with family, friends and neighbours. Learners also consider ways to engage in their community using appropriate forms of travel, supporting independence, social confidence and emotional well-being.

Family and Community Learning (FaCL) hold face-to-face and online courses. Courses include:-

FaCL funding criteria
Courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency. Courses are no cost to learners if they are 19+, have been a resident in UK/EU for 3+ years, have less than 5 GCSEs grades A-C, in receipt of benefits, have a child with SEN and/ or a service family or they may have other issues that joining a course could help with.
