Do you need a School Street Zone Exemption Permit?
People within Wiltshire Council's new School Streets pilot areas are being encouraged
to apply now for exemption permits ahead of the scheme going live in September.
School Streets will be introduced at four schools from Friday 4th September 2026:-
• Aloeric Primary School, Melksham
• Fynamore Primary School, Calne
• Minster Primary School, Warminster
• Queen's Crescent Primary School, Chippenham
The pilot aims to create safer, healthier and less congested environments outside
schools by temporarily restricting through traffic at the start and end of the school day during term time.
The restrictions will be enforced using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. People who live or operate a business within the restricted areas may be eligible for an exemption permit and are encouraged to apply before the scheme begins.
Residents who live in a School Streets zone, businesses in a School Streets zone and
their employees, school staff, blue badge holders and residents or school users with
a medical need can all apply for exemption permits that allow them to travel in the
School Streets zones.
School transport, such as school buses and licensed school taxis, will be arranged with
the school, while emergency services vehicles are automatically exempt.
Wiltshire Council is writing to all affected residents and businesses within the zones to advise them of the permitting system and how to apply.
