Carer’s Emergency Card

UPDATE APRIL 2024

Carers’ Emergency Card
The Carers’ Emergency Card is being replaced by the Carer ID Card. The Carer ID Card offers a form of verified identification, verifies your caring identity and includes your photograph and your In Case of Emergency (ICE) contact details. The card is free of charge, and issued by Forward Carers. The Carer ID Card will provide similar support to previous Carers’ Emergency Card, i.e. you will have an emergency plan that will be actioned if you are in an accident for example.

You do not need to apply for a Carer ID Card if you have an in-date Carers’ Emergency Card. We understand that in time, people with a Carers’ Emergency Card will be sent a letter and will be invited to apply for a Carer ID Card.

You can apply for a free Carer ID card [HERE].

Do you worry what would happen to the person you look after if you were taken ill and unable to tell anyone that someone depends on you? If your answer is yes, the Carers’ Emergency Card may provide you with reassurance. The Carers' Emergency Card Scheme is an initiative run by Wiltshire Council and managed by Carer Support Wiltshire. It offers peace of mind that things will be taken care of in case of an accident or emergency. The card is available to carers aged 18 or over who are caring for someone who lives in Wiltshire (excluding Swindon).

The carers’ emergency card identifies you as a carer in the event of an emergency. It is a credit card size and so it will fit in a wallet or purse. No personal information is recorded on the card. It has only your unique PIN number and contact details for the Carers’ Emergency Card Scheme.

The best way to apply is by using Wiltshire Council’s [Carers Emergency Card Online Application].
